A Star Honoring Rustam Ibragimbekov Unveiled on the Sea Breeze Walk of Fame

On April 22, 2025, a ceremonial unveiling of a personalized star dedicated to the outstanding writer, playwright, director, and producer Rustam Ibragimbekov took place at the Sea Breeze Walk of Fame. He was a People’s Writer of Azerbaijan and an Honored Art Worker of both the Azerbaijan SSR and the Russian Federation.

Rustam Ibragimbekov is one of the most prominent figures in Azerbaijani culture, a recipient of numerous prestigious international awards, and the author of iconic works that have become an integral part of world cinema. His films have received accolades at the Cannes, Berlin, and Venice Film Festivals. The film Burnt by the Sun won an Academy Award, while the культ classic White Sun of the Desert remains a traditional part of pre-flight training for cosmonauts.

The star was unveiled by Rustam Ibragimbekov’s family members, friends, and loved ones. Among the distinguished guests were film director and TV host Yuli Gusman, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation; Rector of the Baku Music Academy, composer and People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR Farhad Badalbeyli; Chairman of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union and People’s Writer of Azerbaijan Anar; Soviet and Azerbaijani actor, People’s Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR Rasim Balayev; diplomat and statesman Elmar Mammadyarov; Advisor to the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan and Honored Art Worker Jahangir Selimkhanov; and many others.

“This place holds many memories for us. It is a place of strength for our family, and it was the same for our father. Here he found inspiration, created many works, and conceived numerous projects. He brought his closest and most distinguished guests here. There is something symbolic in the fact that today, right here on this coast, his star will shine,” said Rustam Ibragimbekov’s daughter, actress, director, and screenwriter Fatima Ibragimbekova.

“Uncle Rustam also played a significant role in the creation of Sea Breeze, as we often saw remarkable and outstanding artists gathered at his home. Those gatherings eventually evolved into a vibrant social space like Sea Breeze, which today continues to attract artists from around the world,” said Emin Agalarov, founder of Sea Breeze resort city.

The Sea Breeze Walk of Fame is the first and only Walk of Fame in Azerbaijan dedicated to outstanding figures in culture and the arts. It already features 26 personalized stars honoring legendary personalities such as Muslim Magomayev, David Foster, Vagif Mustafazadeh, and many others. The collection continues to grow, regularly adding new names of global significance.
