Sea Breeze Uzbekistan Receives Positive State Environmental Review
The Sea Breeze Uzbekistan project at the Charvak Reservoir has received a positive conclusion for the second stage of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The conclusion was issued by the Tashkent Regional Branch of the Center for State Environmental Expertise.
As part of the review, the project’s potential impact on water resources, soil, and biodiversity was assessed, along with measures for environmental monitoring of the site.
Particular attention was paid to preserving existing vegetation: valuable species of trees and shrubs must either be retained or transplanted and, where required by law, compensated for through new planting.
A separate set of requirements concerns the protection of the Charvak Reservoir. The project provides for measures to prevent untreated or insufficiently treated domestic wastewater from entering the Charvak Reservoir or other watercourses.
Once the complex becomes operational, domestic wastewater is planned to be conveyed through the sewerage system to the Chirchiq wastewater treatment facilities.
Following its review of the submitted documentation, the State Environmental Expertise approved the second stage of the Environmental Impact Assessment for Sea Breeze Uzbekistan.
